Averatek is pleased to announce that Absolute EMShas implemented soldering to aluminum using Averatek’s Mina™ chemistry. Absolute EMS assembles surface mount components onto polymer substrates with aluminum traces using Averatek’s Mina™ pretreatment.
Averatek licenses its breakthrough Mina™ chemistry to select EMS companies. To utilize this unique assembly process, they work closely with the Averatek engineering team for implementation. To be Averatek Approved, an organization must demonstrate that their staff and facilities can consistently deliver quality product. Ongoing technical and marketing support is part of this exclusive program.
Mina™ is a simple pretreatment that allows for soldering to aluminum as easily as to copper. It replaces silver-based ACP (Anisotropic Conductive Paste) with solder, for higher reliability at lower cost. By utilizing Mina™, fabricators harness the advantages of aluminum over copper: same conductivity as copper at half the weight – for a fraction of the expense. Additionally, manufacturing is more environmentally friendly than traditional processes, as Mina™ eliminates the steps required for surface finishes for aluminum and shortens processing time. There are multiple applications for Mina™, including RFID mass production, LED lighting panels and power electronics
Doug Dow, Absolute EMS COO commented: “It is very exciting to be in partnership with Averatek. Their mission is to create solutions that deliver ‘tomorrow’s technology’ and this means that together, we are working on new solutions for our customers. Mina™ allows us to use our existing assembly equipment with standard commercial solders with a completely different material system consisting of PET and aluminum.”
“It has been a pleasure working with Absolute EMS”, said Haris Basit, CEO of Averatek. “Their state-of-the-art assembly equipment and engineering expertise allowed them to deploy Mina™in a robust way, and in record time. PET boards with aluminum traces assembled at Absolute EMS, though extremely inexpensive, have passed rigorous reliability and quality tests for use in automotive drive trains.”
